I’ve never surfed in my life, but it’s been a dream since I was a kid!
So when my girl (Patricia) at World Wide Travel told me about Macao Surf Camp, and invited me for a day of surfing and traditional food. How could a girl say ‘no’? haha
On Wednesday morning I arrived at my hotel lobby to find Macao’s Surf Camp Van waiting for me to take me to Macao Beach for my lessons. They usually provide this service for all their customers. As soon as I arrived I was greeted with a massive hug from Patricia!
A little bit about Patricia- She’s a travel blogger just like me! She also has her own line of surfing bikinis, called Costa Bikinis. Because I obviously didn’t have the proper bathing suit to surf, she let me borrow one from her line. So comfortable! Def a good idea I wore it. haha (I am wearing it in the video below, so check it out!)
I had the awesome pleasure of meeting and having my first surf lesson (typically lessons are 2 hours long) with one of the owners of Macao Surf Camp, Rafael. Rafael is a native of Dominican Republic and has been surfing his entire life. I give him lots of credit for having patience with me! (Thanks Rafael!)
After my lesson, I had an amazing meal! The traditional fried fish with fried plantains, and rice, is a MUST have! For just $9.00, and it’s worth every penny.
Anyways, If you ever make your way to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic just ask for the local surf camp on Macao beach. When you get there tell them The Social Girl Traveler sent you! They will be pleased. 🙂
Check out my experience below! (Don’t judge people! My parents were right, I wasn’t going to be a pro surfer. ) haha
Oh! (before I forget) Macao records your surf lesson on their GoPro, so you can always purchase the video after your lesson. 🙂
